The island paradise catching on fire, quite literally reflects the boy's first attempt at survival going up in flames. Their hope in the form of fire goes wayward and transforms into their doom. It successfully foreshadows the boy’s luck at maintaining order. The island-wide fire also showcases the destructive power the boys are capable of, albeit unintentional. It subtly hints at the disaster for everyone involved should similar actions become intensional.
